ACU Diaper Bag

The Kelly Bag!

1 1/2 yards of exterior fabric (i used 3 acu shirts and 1 pr of acu pants for the strap)
1yard of lining
1 1/2 yards of heavy weight interfacing
sewing machine and the usual sewing tools.

pattern:

a) strap 37"x 5 inches cut 1 fabric 1 interfacing
b) Front/back/ and flap.( i shortened my flap i didn't want it the full length of the bag)15"x13"
c) side piece  6" x 13" cut 2 of fabric, 2 of lining, 2 interfacing
d) bottom piece  6"x 15" cut 1 fabric , 1 of lining and 1 interfacing.
e)  cut your pockets however you want them to be , i used the ones off of the acu's.

label your pieces, i just write the letters on the wrong side of the fabric. makes it easier to follow.

Step 1

fuse or sew interfacing to strap, side panels, flap piece, and bottom piece.

Step 2

make strap.
press under 1/2 inch on each long side, fold in half longways, press and sew. top stich all the way around.

Step 3

Make Flap.
you will need 1 fabric piece B and one lining flap piece B.  if you wish you use snaps these should be placed on your fabric piece. before they are attached.
pin lining and fabric piece B right sides together. and sew 3 sides and leave raw one long side.
Use 1/2 inch seam allowance. set aside.

Step 4

your front and back panel fabric pieces B . After they have been fused to interfacing add your pockets where ever you like, on the front and sides.

Step 5

Assemble Bag Exterior

pin interfaced bottom D to side interfaced piece C along short edges, make sure you don't sew your pockets. stitch  press open, repeat with other side.
now you can line up your front interfaced piece and stitch, repeat with back piece. turn right side out . you now have a standing bag exterior.

Step 6

repeat step 5 with your lining. attaching sides ,bottom and the front and back. do not turn right side out. leave a opening at the bottom of your lining for turning.

Step 7

Finishing your Bag.

A) Pin unfinished edge of flap to the raw edge of back panel. lining side facing out.stitch 1/4 inch seam to attach.
B) slip exterior of bag into lining, right sides together. pin top edges together through all thicknesses. stitch 1/2 inch all the way around bag. trim seam.
C) turn bag right side out , pulling exterior bag through opening in lining. close hole in lining.
D) attach straps , top stitch in a X pattern for security.

                                                                      your done!

Upcycled sweater becomes "Mittens"

Mittens

what you will need:

 1 old winter sweater
1 piece of paper to trace your hand
 sewing machine,scissors, thread

step 1

trace your hand.

step 2

lay sweater sleeve on flat surface. pin paper hand so that your sleeve wrist is un cut and will become the wrist of your mitten. cut out. repeat on the oposite sleeve.  right and left really dosent apply.

step 3

reverse it so it is inside out.

step 4

sew, Now i tried this two ways. first i tried a tight zig zag , this curled the mitten. it was still fine but didn't look the best. then i tried a short length straight stitch and it did seem to work better. it just layed better. if you have a serger, i don't, you could try that.

the one on the left is the zig zag one, see what i mean.

SO THATS IT. YOU CANT HAVE TO MANY MITTENS, EXSPECIALLY WITH KIDS LOOSING THEM EVERY OTHER DAY.  PLAY AROUND WITH IT AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS.
